Chris DeFrancesco and Annie Millar obtained summary judgment on behalf of a homeowner who posted Yelp! reviews criticizing the quality of home renovations performed by a contractor. The contractor alleged the statements regarding the quality of his work and his personal character were defamatory. DeFrancesco and Millar successfully argued the statements were protected opinions based on a negative business interaction. Justice McCluskey granted defendant’s motion and dismissed the claims for defamation.
