Smith Sovik Welcomes Three Attorneys!

Smith Sovik Kendrick & Sugnet, P.C., is pleased to announce that Sean Tytka, Quinn Webster, and Edith Westpfal have all joined the firm as new attorneys.  Sean and Quinn participated in Smith Sovik’s Summer Associate program and re-joined the firm after graduating from their respective law schools in 2025.

Sean will be based in the Buffalo office.  He graduated magna cum laude from the University at Buffalo School of Law in 2025.  In law school, Sean competed in national trial advocacy and mediation events.  Sean gained valuable experience defending claims against New York State as an intern in the Office of the Attorney General in 2023 before joining Smith Sovik as a 2024 Summer Associate in the Syracuse office.  During his final semester of law school, Sean served as a judicial extern for a judge in the New York State Supreme Court, 8th Judicial District.

Quinn will be based in the Syracuse office.  He earned his Juris Doctor from the University at Buffalo School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude. During law school, Quinn distinguished himself through active participation on national trial advocacy and mediation teams, gaining hands-on experience in courtroom strategy, persuasive advocacy, and alternative dispute resolution. While in law school, Quinn served as a Writing Fellow, assisting first-year law students in developing strong legal writing and analytical skills. Quinn began his legal career as a Summer Associate at a law firm in Binghamton, New York during the summer of 2023. He later joined Smith Sovik as a Summer Associate in 2024 before spending his final semester of law school as a judicial extern to a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, where he gained valuable insight into judicial decision-making and the inner workings of the court system.

Edith will be based in the Syracuse office.  Edith M. Westpfal, M.D., J.D., FACOG, is an accomplished physician‑attorney whose career spans more than two decades of medical practice in obstetrics and gynecology before a distinguished transition into the legal profession. Dr. Westpfal earned her Juris Doctor from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2024, completing a Health Law Concentration with focused studies in health‑care compliance, drug and device law, and health law quality and liability. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in January 2026. Before entering legal practice, Dr. Westpfal built an extensive medical career as a Board‑Certified Obstetrician‑Gynecologist, serving Central New York communities across outpatient, inpatient, and academic settings.

Sean, Quinn, and Edith will be handling civil litigation cases all over New York State in both the state and federal courts. SSKS is pleased and privileged to have them on board!
