Since joining the firm in 2015, Matt has represented people, businesses and municipalities throughout New York State at all stages of litigation, from case inception through trial and appeals. Prior to Smith Sovik, Matt graduated from the Syracuse University College of Law, where he received the John C. Cherundolo Award for Leadership in Advocacy and was a member of both the National Civil Trial Team and Moot Court Honor Society, where he received the Robert W. Miller Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy.
Matt is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on all areas of litigation including premises liability, motor vehicle and trucking accidents, products liability, Labor Law and construction site accidents, and medical and professional malpractice. He has also worked on numerous federal cases involving defense of civil rights matters involving the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County, as well as representing clients before collegiate disciplinary boards. Annually since 2018, Matt has been named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers and, in 2023, was selected as a “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch” by his peers.
